Not too long ago I caught a fellow writer (Marquel White) online through Internet Messenger and challenged her to a writing race. Much to our surprise we really started cranking out our word counts. So we started meeting every night at midnite to race.

It's really worked wonders on my work in progress and it's a great training tool. Over a period of time I came to realise that if I spent the day thinking about what I wanted to accomplish in my next scene, Consistantly now each midnight when we would start again, the next scene would almost seem to write itself.

As far as racers go, I'm no t very fast, and I've never really expected to win much, but knowing I had to get signed in by a certain time, and knowing someone was waiting for me seemed to act as a greater motivator than just needing to do it.

So far everyone who's joined us has been amazed at their wordcount. For a first draft, get it on paper, go back and rewrite later technique, this works. But not everyone likes to write late into the night like Marquel and I, and IM was a little tricky to use for several people so I'm going to open this forum for the races.  Feel free to invite friends and race during any time whether I'm here or not. There are no losers. This is just a tool.

RACING RULES: We race for one hour, then call it (finsih whatever sentence we're on) and tally up. It's a good idea to break for a few minutes between but that depends on the racers. Maybe if we get a bunch of people racing, I can list the highest scorer every day or something like that.  Could be fun.
